Grand Hotel Zermatterhof

The Zermatterhof, an old institution on the main square of Zermatt in front of the church, has always been the first address for all A-list celebrities staying in Zermatt. Although there might be much more famous luxury hotels in Zermatt, eg the Riffelalp or the Mont Cervin Palace, the Zermatterhof has always been honest and traditional.

A renovated Spa area on the ground floor is the best place to escape the mountains and brillantness of the wonderfully and picture perfect town Zermatt. Vita Borni - a place to unwind after skiing or hinking - dip in the huge indoor pool, relax in the hot jacuzzi while overlooking the Matterhorn or simply relax in the small garden while listening to the water from the small creek.

Our room was a Deluxe Corner Room with a private balcony overlooking the Matterhorn. So there was no doubt that I will have a Nespresso coffee after waking up, as there was a Nespresso machine with plenty of capsules in the room. Minibar was also complimentary as the welcome amenities, including a bottle of wine, a fruit platter and a handwritten latter by the manager. The extra bed was already prepared and has been replaced every day, which means they put it away during day and prepared it again at turn-down-service in the evenings.

Breakfast was always a joy, with best products, such as truffle ham, best salmon, and freshly cooked eggs. My favourite hot chocolate was also available (Caortina, swiss branded), so the morning was always brilliantly started. Furthermore the service was old-school and really kind and personal as well.

For me, the Zermatterhof is the best basis for a relaxing ski holiday or a summer holiday of another kind, all in all very traditional with modern touches.

Prices start from 350 euros in summer and range to 500 euros in winter including buffet breakfast.
